Healthy lifestyle tips to attain a better state of mind

“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness” – Joseph Pilates.

Physical exercise keeps you fit and active, both physically and mentally. Most people suffer from mental illnesses across the globe such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addictive behaviors, and many more.

It can make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life. Most people don’t talk about it because the feelings are so overwhelming and some feel ashamed to talk about it.

Having a positive state of mind can have a huge impact on mental illness and can also improve your sense of welfare. Staying positive makes you feel more confident. This is when your motivation hits the roof and makes you encounter any challenge in your everyday life.

Surround yourself with good people and maintain a good support network, may it be family, friends, colleagues, or any person connected to you. It is very important to have a positive state of mind, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.

The probability of people being the victims of mental illness is very high during this stage.

Here are some of the effective tips on how to develop a strong and healthy lifestyle for a better state of mind –

1.   Accept and value yourself –

Self-love is a very ideal concept and most people struggle with it. Avoid self-criticism by comparing yourself with others. If at all you want to compare yourself with someone, it should be ‘you’.

Try being the better version of yourself every day. Each person is unique and has his or her strengths within them. Make sure that you value yourself because you are good at something or the other. You just need to explore and find it out. Just focus on being the best version of yourself and there is no point in trying to be someone else.

2.   Make sure you eat healthily –

Having a healthy balanced diet makes you feel good inside out. Consuming junk foods or processed foods, which are high in sugar, fat, and salt can harm your body. It can also cause depression and anxiety. Excess consumption of junk food leads to obesity, heart diseases, and even cancer.

Ensure that you take the right amount of carbs, fibers, protein, and vitamins every day. Also, keep your body hydrated all day round. You need to have at least 3-4 liters of water every day. Staying hydrated freshens up your mind and you’re also more likely to have a headache.

3.   Maintain a good support network –

People with good family and social connections are usually healthier than those who lack a good support network. Give time for your family and friends. Having a positive support network motivates and encourages you to achieve your goal.

Maintain a healthy relationship with your family and friends. Find friends who identify and sympathize with your challenges. Talk to them about your problems, share your feelings and emotions. Trust me, you will feel much better.

4.   Exercise with something you love and find a hobby –

Exercise is the key to happiness. Since exercise is a difficult habit to practice, try practicing it with something you love. May it be running, lifting weights, cardio, yoga, boxing, or any other exercise you love doing.

Practicing such exercises helps you to feel fresh, sleep better, and also improves your memory.

Find a hobby or passion which gives you immense pleasure while doing so. You will learn something new and be productive by having them. Also, meditation has a lot of benefits. Practicing it 5-10 minutes a day gives you a sense of relief and satisfaction.

5.   Adopt a sleep routine –

The human body needs 7-9 hours of sleep every day. Lack of sleep results in less concentration, mood swings and also increases the risk of heart disease. Try getting up early in the morning.

Most people are more productive during the early morning hours. Waking up early in the morning keeps you active throughout the day. Don’t spend time staying up all night. Instead, go to bed early, rise early, plan your schedule for the day and do something productive.

6.   Avoid smoking, alcohol, and other drugs –

This may seem like a cliché but most of the time when people undergo stress, they tend to smoke or consume alcohol and drugs. Consuming them leads to various diseases such as cancer, heart disease, lung disease, mental disorder, and many more. Smoking also reduces the mental health of a person.

Consuming alcohol occasionally will not have any such effect on a person. However, make sure you consume it at a minimum level and avoid other drugs.

Start off by making small changes in your daily routine and eventually, you will attain a better state of mind. Stay positive! Stay strong!
