How to prepare for IIT-JEE Main along with boards

Students must maintain a balance between both the exams since they are going to give them back-to-back. Both the JEE Main and the board exam are of two different types.

The board exam is based on basic conceptual and technical terms while the IIT-JEE Main is of a more advanced level, judging students based on their critical thinking and analytical skills.

The syllabus for both the exams varies every year. The study plan for both exams needs to be done differently. This makes it difficult for the students to follow up since they have to give them back-to-back, resulting in confusion and bad performance in both.

Therefore, these two examinations are very important for students in choosing their careers and achieving their goals.

Hence, I would like to list out a few tips which will help you to maintain a balance between JEE Main and boards without compromising on any one of them –

1.   Prepare a study routine –

The first and foremost thing to do is to prepare a study plan for your exam preparation. Give weightage to each subject and focus more on the ones you find difficult to understand.

Organize your day and make it productive. Always say yes to smart learning, which helps you to grasp things for a long period, rather than rote learning, which makes you feel confused and puzzled.

Take power breaks during every 1-2 hours of your study session which helps you freshen up your mind and increases your concentration level.

Since, JEE Main being more of application and numerical based and board exams being more theory-oriented, make sure you go through the syllabus and study accordingly. Also, the syllabus for both JEE Main as well as boards varies every year. All these tips can be implied or made use of in preparation for JEE Main and board exams.

2.   Practice mock test and past years papers –

Solve more mock tests and past years' papers to boost your performance for exam preparation. Since mock tests are similar to your actual paper, it helps you to understand the concepts more easily.

Referring to past years' papers helps you in identifying the important questions for your boards. Solving mock tests helps you in identifying your strong and weak sides. It also increases your speed and confidence level.

Also, focus on fundamentals and solve more numerical problems. Refer to good NCERT books which help you perform well during your exam since the concepts for JEE Main and boards are quite similar.

3.   Revise more –

Revision increases your memory power and helps you to remember the concepts for a long period. It is advisable for both JEE Main as well as your board exams.

Make sure you learn theory concepts first and then move on to application-based concepts, which helps you understand the concepts more clearly.

You can follow a three-tier revision method to make your revision process more effective. In this method, students should first revise a particular concept on the same day, then should revise the same concept after three days, and finally at the end of the week.

In this way, you will be able to get a stronghold on topics that lasts in your memory for a longer duration. Also, ensure that you make note of shortcut formulas and diagrams. Shortcut formulas play a major role in JEE Main.

4.   Avoid distractions and keep yourself motivated –

Avoid distractions, especially from social media. Keep yourself away from your phone while you are studying. Also, to begin with, prepare for boards and then move onto your preparation for JEE Main because boards contain basic concepts and JEE Main consists of more application-based questions.

Therefore, master the basic concepts, which becomes a key for your JEE Main exam. Don’t end up studying for JEE Main and boards at the same point in time which leads you to confusion. Never let stress or anxiety bury you.

The majority of the students often face stress or anxiety while preparing for their exams. You can prevent yourself from getting into this situation by taking power breaks during your study hours, practicing meditation, doing some recreational activities, having a chit-chat with your family members, and also by getting enough sleep.

Thus, keep yourself self-motivated and I promise you that you will ace these two examinations. Good luck!
